In the ever-evolving landscape of content marketing, we’ve gathered insights from top industry experts to uncover unique methods for analyzing competitors‘ content strategies. From an SEO Consultant’s manual website analysis to a CTO’s focus on user engagement and feedback, explore the three distinct approaches these professionals have successfully implemented.

Conduct Manual Website Analysis
Traditional SEO tools can reveal some important findings, such as top-ranking keywords and pages, estimated overall traffic and its fluctuations, and valuable information like backlinks. This helps us understand their backlinking efforts and brand power. Crawling tools can also provide an overview of their complete URL structure and website architecture, allowing us to detect their internal linking strategy and potentially see which keywords they pursue.
However, I go beyond these tools and conduct a manual website analysis. This involves examining their CMS platform, call-to-action strategies, conversion tactics (e.g., offering free resources in exchange for email addresses), and content types beyond core pages (case studies, white papers, testimonials, before-and-after examples). This analysis provides valuable insights into their brand value and E-E-A-T.
Furthermore, I analyze the tone of voice used in their copywriting, how information is organized on pages, and the overall flow of content. Finally, I examine how they structure content across different pages and evaluate its user-friendliness. This helps me understand how they prioritize information and guide users toward desired actions.

Engage as a Fake Social Media User
At Startup House, we like to think outside the box when it comes to analyzing our competitors’ content strategies. One unique method we’ve used is to create fake social media accounts and engage with their content as a regular user. By doing this, we can get a firsthand look at how their audience responds to different types of content, what resonates with them, and what falls flat.
It’s like being a secret agent in the world of digital marketing, gathering valuable insights without them even knowing. This hands-on approach gives us a deeper understanding of what works for our competitors and helps us fine-tune our own content strategy for maximum impact.

Analyze User Engagement and Feedback
One unique method that I’ve utilized to analyze competitors’ content strategies involves deep-diving into user engagement and feedback on the platforms. Beyond traditional metrics, I go through comments, reviews, and social media interactions to understand audience sentiments and preferences.
With this qualitative analysis, I revealed gaps in competitors’ content and highlighted opportunities to provide more resonant and impactful material. Focusing on what users appreciate or criticize helps me craft my strategy to meet their needs better and exceed their expectations, ultimately gaining a competitive edge.
